Book Distribution

New Haven Reads packs and delivers books to Yale New Haven Hospital, the Hill Health Center, and a long list of nursery schools, shelters, and senior centers, as well as area schools and individual classrooms. In addition to providing books to local teachers, teachers from across the state and from New York and New Jersey come to get books for their students. We have also participated in book shipments to South Africa, to Bosnia, and to China.

Following a visit to New Haven Reads we received the following note:

“Thank you so much for allowing me to come down and choose books for our students.

We are trying to encourage these students and overcome the barriers that keep them from reading in the summer. Being able to place free books of their choosing into their hands – for them to own – is an important first step to creating a life-long reader.

The students who picked out their summer reading books today were so thrilled they could take books home with them TO KEEP!

I was also impressed by the tutoring going on while I was there. Your folks were doing great work!
